But his obsession with the man who made him a monster could destroy the fragile connection they've forged, and cost him the one thing that makes him feel human--her love.

Book Beyond Series Bundle (Books 1-3) Review :

I really enjoyed these books. Not so much for the erotica, which gets to be too repetitive then winds you up and just stalls out on the follow through, which tends to be all emotion and in their heads instead of raw passion. Which is a shame because every scene starts very passionately. Of course, it was still overdone. I would say erotica overtook 3/4 of every story. That's too much, especially considering this author can actually write darn good drama and intrigue. That is by far my favorite parts of her stories. All the erotica scenes are bdsm and voyeurism. Even people who are innocent end up getting into group scenes or having tons of people watching them. It would be so much more sexy if each couple had their own preferences in the bedroom. While she might be trying to do that, every couple ends up morphing into every other one. Something exciting has been made boring by wearing it out.My biggest complaint though is this author's lack of descriptions of the people. That drives me crazy. Makes it impossible to get a picture in my head, so I make one up, then 3/4 through a story she go especially us something, like they are black or have red hair and it completely throws off everything in my head. She is in desperate need of giving us a clear idea of what the characters terms look like. It's writing 101. You develop your characters to the point they are living and breathing on the page. We get none of that.I almost gave 3 stars instead except the writing and storytelling is so good. So Kit, if you are reading this... give descriptions, pads back the erotica, follow it through more passionately and let our couples be individuals sexually.
Let's talk about this series. I saw the five-star ratings, this series was mentioned in a article on Bustle, so I decided to read it. I write romances with sizzle (waiting in folders on my laptop), so I was intrigued, curious. I was interested in the male bisexual love story and wanted to see how it was depicted. It hovered on the edges. Exhale. Let me preface this review with a statement: Sex is good.I love to read well-written, hot, sexually-charged scenes as long as the goal is driven by story and ultimately love. These are not sci-fi or strictly speculative fiction novels--I believe they fall under Romance (Erotic Romance would be most accurate). The promise of lusty romance and to bring the reader to the edge falls down, down down.Too much, too many CEASELESS sex scenes are my reasons for rating this two stars. One scene, back down to mattress, another and another with little story tying it together. The author(s) (it's actually two writers working in tandem) can definitely tell a good story. I liked many of the characters too. That's what was disappointing about the books. I wanted to know more, but the unrelenting emphasis on kinky, "dirty" sex, coupled with strong BDSM sex (not my area of interest), left me cold and dissatisfied. The author's emphasis is specifically on "dirty," and even the word "love" had to be paired with "dirty," and that upset me to be honest. It cheapens the emotional connections that were already pretty thin on tenderness. It's raw erotica with a pulse of a story threading into the background. How many ways can fingers, tongues, body parts and whips and bindings be used? You'll find out if you read this.I'm not a prude, it's just too much sex with no relief, and the wrong kind for me. I really didn't have a problem with some of it, but seldom evolved beyond voyeurism and orgies and attempts to titillate, and I was bored. If one has to explain and convince the reader if the needs, motivations and actions for the characters' aberrant behavior OVER and OVER, something's wrong. It drags the story down. It's boring. I wanted the backstory, not the continual justification for the sex or the same people doing ever-increasing kinky sex.One couple (yes, there are many pairings), made me believe their love even though it finally turns into yet another sh*t storm of sado-masochism. I kind of wanted to see what happens next to Ace and Mad, but I'd have to wade through tangles of bodies to get there. I will say, the author(s) must be laughing their way to the top of this genre. Maybe it's me.
